Text Box: Dr. James Magoffin was one of Mercer’s earliest physicians. He built two rooms of the Magoffin House in 1822 to serve as his living quarters and office. As his family grew, he added many rooms, including this one, which served as a parlor and now houses memorabilia associated with his practice and his descendents. Of special note is the piano, purported to be the first to come west of the Alleghenies, and Dr. Magoffin’s medical instruments.
